Job summary

Frey Consulting Group is seeking a Hardscape Foreman to lead a field crew on premium hardscape installations in Sterling Heights, MI. You will supervise two or more crew members, train for quality, and ensure safe, precise execution on site.

You will read plans, manage elevations, operate equipment, and track daily time/materials for the Project Manager. Strong communication with clients and adherence to safety protocols are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required, supplemented by 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in the hardscaping field.
  • Advanced blueprint reading and layout abilities, including the capacity to accurately interpret elevations.
  • Proficiency in operating heavy equipment, power saws, leveling devices, hand tools, and automatic/manual commercial vehicles.
  • Strong understanding of industry terminology and base materials, including proctor density, aspect ratio, 21AA, and slag sand.
  • Must hold a valid Michigan Driver's License to accommodate regular travel to project sites and client meetings.
  • Ability to regularly lift and move up to 80 pounds, and willingness to work in varying outdoor weather conditions.
  • Willingness to obtain First Aid, CPR, and OSHA 30-Hour certifications within one year of accepting the position.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a field team of at least two members, setting daily production expectations, providing necessary training, and coaching for improvement.
  • Install custom brick pavers, segmented and natural stone retaining walls, outdoor lighting, and custom hardscape applications like outdoor kitchens and fire pits.
  • Read and interpret complex construction plans and apply elevation requirements to execute layouts with absolute precision.
  • Operate and oversee a variety of heavy construction equipment, including skid loaders, excavators, compactors, mechanical paver layers, and dump trucks.
  • Complete accurate daily time and material tracking for proper reporting to the Project Manager.
  • Interact professionally with clients throughout the project lifecycle, addressing scope questions, implementing approved changes, and conducting final walkthroughs.
  • Ensure a clean and secure work environment by adhering strictly to all project safety protocols and immediately reporting any hazards.
