Job summary

Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library (EVPL) invites applications for a part-time Library Assistant at EVPL Central in Evansville. The role guides patrons, helps with wayfinding, and promotes EVPL services and programs.

The Library Assistant handles circulation, answers technology questions, and assists with displays and programming. Requirements include a high school diploma and 1+ years in customer service, plus comfort with computer hardware/software and Microsoft/Google tools.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 1+ years' experience in direct customer service.
• 1+ years' experience with a variety of computer hardware and software systems (printers, digital catalogs, eReaders, etc.).
• Enthusiasm for reading, listening, viewing, and learning.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, as well as Google Suite products.
• Must have reliable and timely transportation to and from work.
• Preferred: Associate's degree in Library Technology, Education, Business, or related field.
• Preferred: 1+ years' experience working in a library and/or conducting programs for children and others of all ages.
• Preferred: Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Preferred: Basic technology troubleshooting knowledge.

Responsibilities

• The Library Assistant guides patrons coming to the library for the first time, and every time after.
• Assists with wayfinding related to facilities, services, resources, equipment, and technologies.
• Promotes EVPL and its services, programs, resources, and experts.
• Explain library policies, circulate materials, and issue library cards using the integrated library system.
• Assist patrons with library technology or questions and shelves materials.
• Assist in creating materials displays and/or programming efforts.
• Advance the library’s mission, vision, priorities, and brand in collaboration with colleagues.
