Job summary

Baystate Health in Massachusetts seeks a Patient Transport Assistant to support unit operations and patient movement under RN supervision. You will help transport patients, maintain equipment, and ensure a clean, safe environment on the unit.

Responsibilities include rounds with RNs, assisting with ambulation, coordinating with staff for devices, and following health and safety protocols. Candidates should have GED/HiSET and Basic Life Support certification, with prior hospital exposure

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated competency in basic English literacy and mathematics.
  • Must have demonstrated competency in simple mathematics, reading, writing and following instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Daily equipment accountability and cleaning; maintain monitors and carts.
  • Meet unit RN staff for rounds to assess transport and environment needs.
  • Communicate with staff to identify patients needing ambulation and seating.
  • Assist with unit transport and morgue transfers as required.
  • Relieve intermittent observers and constant companions per charge nurse.
  • Assemble orthopedic equipment when needed.
  • Record daily standing weights and report to RN to input in CIS.
  • Provide patient comfort; assist ambulation and positioning under RN guidance.
  • Participate in unit projects; communicate effectively with team and patients.
  • Follow health and safety rules and body substance precautions.
  • Show competency for one-to-one observation as departmental needs arise.
