Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking a Patient Transport Technician to safely move patients across East Campus, with potential to float to Hillcrest and La Jolla locations. You will transport patients by wheelchairs, gurneys, and beds while assisting with lifts and transfers per safety standards.

Qualified candidates will have BART/BLS-CPR, inpatient transport experience, and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks. Overtime and weekend shifts are part of the role.

Qualifications

• Requires BART or BLS/CPR certification at time of hire.
• Must have 12 months as UCSD Patient Escort or Patient Transport Tchn 1 or 2 years inpatient transport experience.
• Must be able to stand and walk for long periods.
• Must be able to lift over 50 pounds and push/pull a gurney or bed with patients up to 300 pounds.
• Must be able to independently move an empty bed.
• Willing to work overtime weekends to meet department needs.

Responsibilities

• Transport conscious, semi-conscious and unconscious patients safely to/from units and imaging areas using wheelchairs, gurneys, and beds.
• Assist with lifting, turning, repositioning and transfers per Safe Patient Handling standards.
• Transport medical equipment, oxygen cylinders, records, and other items as requested.
• Coordinate with Transport Call Center and hospital teams to prioritize assignments and improve throughput.
• Identify equipment issues and submit service requests to IT, Biomedical, and Facilities.
