Job summary

The University of California San Diego Health is seeking a Patient Transport Technician (Per Diem) to support patient flow across East Campus Medical Center. You will transport patients using wheelchairs, gurneys, and beds, ensuring safety and comfort during transfers.

This role requires lifting, repositioning, and moving equipment, with occasional rotations to Hillcrest and La Jolla campuses. It is a 20% appointment with 8-hour rotating shifts, including weekends, to meet department needs.

Qualifications

• BART or BLS/CPR certification at time of hire, with commitment to obtain BART within six months.
• 12 months as UCSD Patient Escort or Patient Transport Tchn 1 or 2 years inpatient transport experience.
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
• Lift over 50 pounds and push/pull a gurney or bed up to 300 pounds.
• Willingness to work overtime weekends to meet department needs.
• Follows performance standards and strives for patient-focused service.

Responsibilities

• Transport conscious, semi-conscious, and unconscious patients using wheelchairs, gurneys, and hospital beds.
• Assist with lifting, turning, repositioning, and transfers per safety standards.
• Move equipment, records, and supplies as requested to support operations.
• Collaborate with Transport Call Center, nursing units, and imaging to prioritize requests.
• Identify equipment issues and submit service requests to maintain readiness.
• Float to Hillcrest and La Jolla campuses as needed.
