Job summary

University of California - San Diego Medical Centers is seeking a Patient Transport Technician to move patients safely and efficiently across campus facilities. You will assist with lifting and transfers, operate transport equipment, and support hospital throughput while collaborating with nursing and imaging teams.

Position requires good physical stamina, ability to lift heavy loads, and flexible hours including weekends and overtime as needed to meet department needs.

Qualifications

• BART or BLS/CPR certification required at hire; plan to obtain BART within 6 months.
• Minimum 12 months as UCSD Patient Escort or 2 years inpatient transport experience.
• Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Must be able to lift over 50 pounds and push/pull a gurney or bed weighing up to 300 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients using wheelchairs, gurneys, and beds across units and departments.
• Assist with lifting, turning, repositioning, and transfers with appropriate patient-handling equipment.
• Transport medical equipment, oxygen cylinders, records, and imaging-related materials per requests.
• Coordinate with Transport Call Center, nursing units, imaging, and other teams to prioritize transports.
