Job summary

University Hospital in Newark, NJ, seeks a transportation services professional to move patients and related materials safely. You will handle a wide range of items, from specimens to medical orders, while maintaining patient comfort and safety. Training in body mechanics and CPR is required within the stated timelines.

The role emphasizes reliable shift work, coordination with healthcare staff, and adherence to hospital protocols to ensure timely patient transfers and equipment readiness.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED certificate required.
• One year of customer service experience preferably in a healthcare environment.
• Ability to read, write, speak, understand and/or communicate in English sufficiently to perform job duties.
• Ability to communicate with a variety of patients and health care professionals.
• Must be able to walk and stand for long periods, push, pull life and bend with hand and eye coordination in compliance with PM &R Physical Assessment.
• Must successfully complete UH’s body mechanics training within three (3) months of hire into position.
• Ability to complete CPR instruction.
• Must be able to respond to changing staffing needs and shift rotations with required advance notification.

Responsibilities

• Provides transportation service for patients from neonates to geriatrics and patient related materials.
• May utilize various such as equipment pagers, locks, etc.
• Performs preventive maintenance on all transport equipment as required.
