Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking a Patient Transporter to support safe, timely movement of patients within our Medical Center. You will work closely with nursing staff to transfer patients between bed, wheelchairs, and stretchers, maintaining courtesy and patient comfort.

Entry level position with on-the-job training provided by Team Leader and Transport staff. You must be able to assist patients weighing 100 to 300+ pounds and operate the facility paging system to track movements.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Entry level; on-the-job training provided.
• Ability to assist and move patients weighing 100–300+ lbs.
• Must be able to use the paging system to track patient and staff movements.

Responsibilities

• Move patients safely and timely between care areas in the Medical Center, in cooperation with nursing staff.
• Assist with transferring patients from bed to wheelchair or stretcher and back as needed.

The patient transporter is directly responsible for the courteous, safe and timely movement of patients from one patient care area to another within the Medical Center. This includes the cooperative effort, with nursing personnel to physically move the patient between the bed and mode of transportation (i.e. wheelchair, stretcher, etc.).

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
• Entry level position. On the job training will be provided by the Team Leader and Patient Transport staff.
• Must be able to support and push patients of various body conditions (weights ranging from 100 lbs to 300+ lbs).
• Must be able to work with the paging system that allows the facility to track the movement of the patients and the transport staff.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

• Experience in patient transport, medical experience and patient contact preferred.
