Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking a patient transporter to safely move patients between care areas within the Medical Center. This entry-level role works in collaboration with nursing staff to ensure courteous and timely patient transport using wheelchairs or stretchers.

The position requires a High School diploma or GED and offers on-the-job training; candidates should be able to assist with patients weighing 100 to 300+ pounds and operate the paging system to track movements.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED. GED equivalent programs.
• Entry level position. On the job training will be provided by the Team Leader and Patient Transport staff.
• Must be able to support and push patients of various body conditions (weights ranging from 100 lbs to 300+ lbs).

Responsibilities

• Move patients safely and courteously between patient care areas as directed, working with nursing personnel.
• Assist in coordinating patient movement using available transport modes (wheelchair, stretcher, etc.).

The patient transporter is directly responsible for the courteous, safe and timely movement of patients from one patient care area to another within the Medical Center. This includes the cooperative effort, with nursing personnel to physically move the patient between the bed and mode of transportation (i.e. wheelchair, stretcher, etc.).

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.


• Entry level position. On the job training will be provided by the Team Leader and Patient Transport staff.


• Must be able to support and push patients of various body conditions (weights ranging from 100 lbs to 300+ lbs).


• Must be able to work with the paging system that allows the facility to track the movement of the patients and the transport staff.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

• Experience in patient transport, medical experience and patient contact preferred.
