Job summary

Avera Health is seeking a PRN patient access specialist for the Avera St. Mary's Oncology Clinic. You will welcome patients, complete registration, verify demographics and insurance, and collect payments to ensure smooth access to care.

In this role you will verify insurance, obtain consents, scan documents, handle calls and scheduling, and coordinate with nurses, physicians and staff to expedite care while upholding Avera’s CARE values and commitment to compassionate service.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED or 1–3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Welcomes patients, checking them in and completing registration including demographics, insurance and service payments.
  • Responsible for insurance verifications, authorizations and getting consent/waiver forms signed as appropriate.
  • Scanning pertinent information into the patient’s record.
  • Answers calls/messages/faxes and routes to appropriate departments.
  • Maintains computer appointment scheduling and follows office policies.
  • Coordinates nurse, physician and patient time to expedite care.

A Brief Overview

Works in the various reception areas throughout the Clinic and is responsible for helping the patients to access the Clinic's system for care.

What you will do
  • Welcomes patients, checking them in and completing registration which includes verifying demographics, insurance and collection of any service payments.
  • Responsible for insurance verifications, authorizations and getting consent and waiver forms signed as appropriate.
  • Responsible for scanning all pertinent information into the patient’s record.
  • Answers and addresses calls, messages and/or faxes, routing them to appropriate individuals/departments if needed.
  • Maintains computer appointment scheduling and follows office scheduling policies/parameters.
  • Expedites delivery of care by coordinating nurse, physician, and patient time.
  • Acts as public relations agent for the physicians by serving the patients in a friendly, efficient manner.
  • Directs patients to ancillary services as needed.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience

High School or GED Equivalent or 1-3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
