Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
Location: Brentwood, with occasional travel to other offices

Purpose
A Patient Services Representative welcomes patients, promotes new consumer-friendly technologies, educates about copayments and financial obligations, schedules appointments, connects patients to financial advocacy resources, updates patient information, and fosters a culture of service excellence. The role requires strong customer service skills to ensure a positive UPMC experience at various facilities.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly
- Assist patients with self-arrival technology or check-in at the desk
- Collect copayments and applicable payments at the point of service
- Update patient registration information at checkout
- Schedule follow-up appointments and ancillary services
- Help patients navigate the healthcare system with clear instructions
- Follow up on unresolved patient questions to ensure continuity of care
- Understand service recovery principles and take appropriate actions
- Register patients in the Biometrics program and explain its benefits
- Promote and assist with MyUPMC portal registration
- Educate patients on financial responsibilities and connect them to advocacy resources
- Verify insurance benefits via online systems or phone
- Obtain signatures for treatment and financial consent following HIPAA rules
- Manage phone calls and assist with administrative tasks such as scanning and faxing
