Job summary

UPMC Central PA Weight Management Center in York, PA seeks a Patient Services Representative to join a fast-paced healthcare team. You will ensure a warm welcome, guide patients through check-in, collect payments, verify registrations, and schedule follow-ups with a focus on excellent service.

The ideal candidate brings strong organizational and multitasking skills, robust customer service experience, and familiarity with medical office workflows. Epic experience is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school graduate or equivalent. Prior medical office/front desk experience preferred.
• Strong customer service skills and detail orientation are essential.
• Experience with Epic or similar health records systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and visitors warmly to ensure a welcoming experience.
• Assist with check-in/check-out using self-arrival technology or front desk workflows.
• Collect copayments and post payments at point of service.
• Verify patient registrations and update demographics accurately.
• Schedule follow-up appointments and ancillary services as needed.
• Educate patients about MyUPMC portal and enrollment steps.
• Triage phone calls and route them to appropriate departments.
• Maintain patient records and assist with scanning and faxing documents.

UPMC Central PA Weight Management Center is seeking a Patient Services Representative to join our busy, close-knit team in York, PA. Responsibilities:

• Provide a warm, welcoming experience for all patients and visitors.
• Guide patients through self-arrival technology or assist with check-in at the front desk based on patient preference.
• Collect copayments and other applicable patient payments at the point of service.
• Confirm and update patient registration and demographic information during the check-out process.
• Schedule follow-up appointments within the practice at check-out.
• Schedule ancillary services or connect patients with the appropriate resources to arrange additional services.
• Help patients navigate the healthcare system by providing clear, easy-to-understand instructions and ensuring continuity of care through follow-up on unresolved questions or concerns.
• Demonstrate an understanding of service recovery principles and take appropriate action to exceed patient expectations and uphold the UPMC Experience.
• Register patients in the Biometrics (fingerprint recognition) program and educate them on its benefits.
• Promote the MyUPMC patient portal and assist patients with enrollment and registration when appropriate.
• Educate patients regarding their financial responsibilities and connect them with advocacy and financial assistance resources as needed.
• Verify insurance coverage and benefits through online verification systems and telephone inquiries with insurance carriers.
• Obtain patient or family signatures for consent to treatment and financial responsibility forms in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
• Professionally triage and route incoming phone calls to the appropriate departments or clinical staff.
• Assist with administrative duties, including scanning medical records, faxing documents, and maintaining accurate patient records.
• Remain knowledgeable about MyUPMC Portal navigation and functionality, confidently explaining features and benefits to help patients access health information and care services with ease.
• Completion of high school graduate or equivalent is required.
• Experience with personal computer-based applications, other various office equipment and proficient typing skills are preferred.
• Two years of experience in a medical / billing / fiscal or customer service function is preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
• Prior experience with Medipac, Epic, or other health records systems is preferred.
