Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Akron General's Stow Health and Wellness Center is seeking a Patient Service Specialist to welcome patients from arrival to checkout, handle check-ins, collect co-pays, assist with kiosk use, and support scheduling and pre-registration. You will work with physicians to ensure a smooth checkout and help patients enroll in MyChart.

This role offers growth within Cleveland Clinic and requires strong customer service, basic math, and PC skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications: High School Diploma or GED with 2 years in patient registration or customer service; OR an Associate’s Degree with 1 year; OR a Bachelor’s Degree.
• Working knowledge of PC window applications.
• Ability to perform basic math to process insurance co-pays.

Responsibilities

• Welcome and check in patients, collect co-pays and complete visit preparations.
• Assist with kiosk use and support patients with scheduling, pre-registration and MyChart enrollment.
• Partner with physicians to ensure a smooth checkout process and accurate patient records.
• Enter and maintain confidential patient information and coordinate interpreter services as needed.
• Register patients for visits, perform visit preparation and triage phone inquiries.
• Support scheduling, arrival/departure desk activities and insurance verification.
• Educate and enroll patients in MyChart and Appointment Pass.

As a Patient Service Specialist, you’ll help create an exceptional experience for patients, families and visitors from arrival through checkout. You’ll welcome and check in patients, collect co-pays, complete visit preparations, assist with kiosk use, and support patients with scheduling, pre-registration and MyChart enrollment. You’ll also partner closely with physicians to ensure a smooth and efficient checkout process. A caregiver in this position will work variable start and end times between 6:15am and 5:00pm. Rotating weekends are required.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide a comprehensive, proactive and “Patients First” experience for patients and visitors.
• Investigate, triage and resolve patient issues using the established HEART model.
• Create a welcome and professional environment, interact with patients and ensure stellar patient experiences.
• Perform patient registration, visit preparation, telephone triage, insurance verification, co-pay collection, patient and record tracking, scheduling, arrival and/or departure desk activities and screening and scheduling of interpreter services.
• Enter and maintain confidential patient information.
• Recruit, enroll and educate patients on MyChart and Appointment Pass.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma or GED and two years of experience in patient registration, appointment scheduling, insurance processing or customer service
• OR an Associate’s Degree and one year of experience
• OR a Bachelor’s Degree
• Working knowledge of PC window applications
• Ability to perform basic math sufficient to process insurance co-pays

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Type a minimum of 30 words per minute or personal computer keyboard skills
• Epic experience

Physical Requirements:

• Dexterity sufficient to operate a PC and other office equipment.
• Requires extended periods of standing, walking or sitting.
• Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision.
• Must be able to navigate various locations and function in a fast-paced, hectic environment.
• Ability to lift and transport up to 25 pounds.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $15.75

Maximum hourly: $21.65
