Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is seeking a Patient Service Representative I to perform pre-registration and full registration, serving as a resource and mentor during clinic hours.

The role requires handling escalated issues, coordinating with departments, and supporting accurate billing and collections. This position emphasizes strong communication, insurance knowledge, and the ability to work under stress while supporting pediatric patients and their families in a busy

Responsibilities

  • Perform all tasks of the Patient Service Representative I role including pre-registration and full registration.
  • Serve as a resource person and role model for Patient Service Representatives during clinic hours.
  • Handle escalated or complicated issues with workflows.
  • Mentor staff to ensure departmental operations are consistent.
  • Epic Super User/Epic tester; Develops SOPs.
  • Cross-train in all operational functions.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Reconcile Epic cash drawer and deposits for billing when appropriate.
  • Order supplies for areas within their scope.
  • Maintain Physicians Sessions log for billing hours where applicable.
  • Prepare monthly leases by services to record sessions and overtime hours.
  • Monitor Front End Collections and weekly collections on Dashboard for HB/PB optimization.
  • Collaborate with Manager and staff on staffing to address daily variances.
  • Distribute information to practice plans and other departments.

Qualifications
  • K.S.A.'s: High school graduate; some college preferred.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in clinics or physician office environment.
  • Knowledge of insurance coverages as well as managed care requirements.
  • Excellent communication/listening skills.
  • Ability to make quick, accurate decisions on a daily basis.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Computer skills with experience utilizing Microsoft applications i.e. Outlook.
  • Substantial interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with pediatric patients, families, physicians, nursing and other allied health and medical center personnel.
  • Skillset that exhibits the ability to handle multiple decisions making.

  • Works with Manager & Patient Service Representative III on staffing to address any daily staffing variances.
  • Monitors distribution of information to practice plans and other departments as appropriate.
  • Other job functions as assigned.

Pay Range

$19.50-$30.23 Hourly
