Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is seeking a friendly administrative professional with a high school diploma to support our pediatric care teams. The role involves answering calls, scheduling appointments, registering patients, and maintaining accurate records while upholding HIPAA and confidentiality.

You will work in a fast-paced environment, collaborate with families and clinicians, and help ensure smooth patient flow and timely communications.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma is required; some college preferred.
  • General office or healthcare experience preferred (minimum 2 years).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Answers multiple divisional phone calls; assists with scheduling, screening, routing, and registration.
  • Responds to hospital and department questions; distributes messages in appropriate databases.
  • Schedules new and return appointments using scheduling guidelines and tools.
  • Collects patient demographics, verifies insurance eligibility, and completes registration.
  • Transcribes referrals and submits for clinical triage as required.
  • Facilitates electronic and non-electronic communication for families and patients.
  • Enrolls patients in MyChart and uses Epiccare Link as needed.
  • Maintains departmental performance metrics and quality goals.
  • Obtains referrals for scheduled services and collects outstanding patient liabilities.
  • Upholds confidentiality and HIPAA; supports training of staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Description
  • High school diploma required. Some college preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of general office or healthcare experience required.
  • Some knowledge of medical terminology, strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word applications such as Outlook and other computer skills preferred.
  • Demonstrates a high level of customer service and interpersonal skills to effectively work with pediatric patients, families, physicians, nursing and other allied health and medical center personnel. Excellent communication/organizational and prioritization skills needed.
  • Problem solving skills and ability to handle multiple priorities in fast paced environment. Requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to perform under pressure of deadlines.
Job Duties
  • Answers multiple divisional phone calls; responding to customer requests including, and not limited to cross departmental appointment scheduling, screening, routing calls and registration.
  • Responds to hospital and department related questions as appropriate. Facilitates consumer communication by retrieving and distributing messages in the appropriate database.
  • Provides physician-patient support using scheduling guidelines and online knowledge-based tool to schedule new and return appointments.
  • Correctly identifies and collects patient demographic information in accordance with organization standards, verifies insurance eligibility and completes registration as needed for families.
  • Transcribes new referrals in Epic from phone or fax and submit referrals for clinical triage as specified by division guidelines or Epic instruction.
  • Assists in facilitating both electronic and non-electronic communication for families and patients. Provides family pertinent next steps for visit.
  • Signs up patients for MyChart as well as utilizing the Epiccare Link functionality as appropriate.
  • Maintains performance metrics related to department and individual key performance indicators and all quality goals consistently.
  • Obtains referral for scheduled services.
  • Reviews and collects outstanding patient liabilities as appropriate (estimates, copays, outstanding balances, self pay, etc.)
  • Meets expectations of outstanding service, including behavior that models Core Values with every encounter, every time. Adheres to organizational Power of All principles.
  • Maintains confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
  • Assist with training new and current employees as needed.
  • Other job functions as assigned.

Lurie Children's will consider visa sponsorship of qualified candidates for the registered nurse role, subject to all applicable law as well as business and budgetary limitations.

$19.00-$28.50 Hourly
