The Department of Medicine is seeking a Patient Service Coordinator/MA to work as a team member with the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Knoll North in Columbia.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Patient Service Coordinator position responsibilities 50%
- Offer friendly, courteous, and confidential assistance to every patient to ensure a positive experience at Johns Hopkins Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology clinic at Knoll North.
- Maintain accurate patient information to facilitate encounters; use automated systems for scheduling, pre-registration, check-in, and check-out; work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Schedule follow-up appointments and relay preparation instructions for tests and examinations.
- Coordinate visits within and between departments.
- Telephone and interview patients and families for pre-registration and appointment confirmation.
- Distribute directions, maps, fee schedules, and department information to patients.
- Send medical questionnaires to gather missing information.
- Verify and input pre-registration and insurance data; prepare daily schedules.
- Obtain demographic data and confirm appointments via phone or mail.
- Register patients, inform them about costs, and guide them to resources.
- Answer calls, handle payments, and manage billing and medical record requests.
Certified Medical Assistant Responsibilities 50%
- Provide patient care duties under supervision, demonstrating responsible behavior and effective communication.
- Maintain clinical supplies, organize patient flow, and ensure safety.
- Participate in patient care, including assessment, vital signs, specimen management, and assisting with procedures.
- Recognize emergencies, provide first aid, and administer CPR.
- Provide patient education and health information, including injections and pre-visit vitals.
Unit Operations
- Support smooth patient flow and clinical operations, assist with exam preparations, and maintain supplies.
- Operate equipment safely, dispose of waste properly, and perform delegated tasks.
- Assist with front desk duties and telemedicine triage.
Responsibility in Medical Assistant Role
- Identify learning needs, participate in meetings, and suggest improvements.
- Use resources to validate care decisions.
Age Specific Care
- Provide age-appropriate care based on patient needs, gained through education or experience.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (e.g., CMA, RMA); must obtain within 180 days if not certified.
- One year of customer service experience.
- Current CPR certification; must maintain during employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience at Johns Hopkins or similar service industry.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance, and Microsoft Office.
