What is Lifebanc?

Lifebanc, is the federally designated organ, eye and tissue recovery organization that serves 20 counties in Northeast Ohio. Put simply, we facilitate and coordinate organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation in our community and educate the public on the importance of our mission. Position Description

This position is responsible for the facilitation of the tissue and eye donation process through interaction with hospital personnel, coroner personnel, communication with tissue processors and recovery staff as required by regulatory standards.

Essential Functions

Identifies and evaluates all referrals for potential organ, tissue and eye donation as required by regulatory standards.

• Collects and interprets patient medical and social history information provided by hospital/nursing home staff, coroners or investigators.
• Triages organ, tissue and eye donor referral calls, contacting the appropriate Lifebanc staff member when needed.
• Ability to understand progress notes, doctor’s orders, lab results and medication lists.
• Responsible for communication with the hospital, Coroner’s/Medical Examiner’s and Funeral Homes as needed.
  
  

Provides the Donor Services Specialist III with appropriate referrals for family contact.

• Delivers a thorough and accurate report to the Donation Services Coordinator III prior to family approach.
  
  

Ensures departmental quality guidelines are maintained by timely clearance of donor charts to maximize opportunities for transplantation and provides essential customer service both within Lifebanc and outside of the organization.

• Responds to audit findings and processor requests in a timely manner.
• Accurate, timely completion of charting error tasks assigned in the database and responds to all other inquiries from the Quality Department required for donor chart clearance.
  
  

Participates as an active member of the Donation Services department and organization to support Lifebanc’s Mission, Vision and Values.

The hours for the day shift are 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and night shift is 6 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Each shift covers twelve and a half hours and includes two (2) weekend shifts, and four (4) weekday shifts in a two-week period.

After completing in office training, this position will be remote.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required.
• Undergraduate degree, diploma or certificate in a health field or related area.
• Minimum 1-2 years of experience as support staff in the clinical health care field such as LPN, Health Unit Coordinator, STNA, MA, Clinical Technician, or related experience in tissue banking.
• CTBS certification preferred but not required.
• Strong interpersonal and listening skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, including medical staff, hospital personnel and donor families.
• Ability to conduct multiple tasks at one time.
