Job summary

Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN is seeking a Patient Safety Coordinator to enhance patient safety across the health system. This hybrid role requires in-person work at least three days per week and carries responsibilities in incident review, RCA leadership, and regulatory reporting.

You will educate staff on patient safety, coordinate risk reduction activities, and collaborate with committees to develop improvement strategies while ensuring compliance with Joint Commission

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 3-5 years of hospital experience in acute care.
  • Master's degree preferred in nursing or related field.
  • Experience in patient safety, quality improvement, project management, or healthcare risk management.
  • Competent in Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Actively reviews event reports and ensures notification and follow-up actions.
  • Identifies care, safety, process, or system issues with safety risks.
  • Retrieves event data and prepares reports.
  • Leads root cause analysis or system reviews for serious events.
  • Completes state and federal reporting including Minnesota Patient Safety Registry and FDA/CMS reporting.
  • Ensures closure of identified improvement opportunities by following up on actions.
  • Analyzes data for evaluation of patient safety risk and priority setting.
  • Serves on committees offering expertise in patient safety and performance improvement.
  • Coordinates multiple patient notification events.
  • Co-manages manufacturer recalls with Supply Chain.
  • Develops and provides organizational education related to patient safety.
  • Leads proactive risk reduction activities such as FMEA.
  • Maintains understanding of Joint Commission standards and regulatory standards.
  • Provides data for regulatory standards.
  • Rotates weekend call to provide guidance and ensure timely reporting.
  • Provides project management for patient safety improvement activities.
