Job summary

Health First is seeking a Patient Observer on a per diem basis to support stroke care delivery across all four Health First Hospitals. The role emphasizes Quality/No Harm, Customer Service and Stewardship while supervising patients as needed under nursing guidance.

The position requires vigilance, clear communication, and the ability to assist with basic patient care tasks and safety precautions throughout variable shifts.

Qualifications

• Must speak and understand written and verbal English.
• Must have corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Must have visual acuity and hand-eye coordination for patient care.
• Must be able to stay alert for an eight-hour shift.
• Must respond appropriately to emergent situations with patient care.

Responsibilities

• Immediately reports pertinent information to the charge nurse and alerts staff of safety issues.
• Stays with the patient during the shift and does not leave them unattended without nurse approval.
• Communicates clearly and professionally with all health care team members, patients, and families.
• Completes bedside shift reports with the nurse and provides end-of-shift summaries.
• Maintains a professional, neutral demeanor in conversations with patients and families.
• Assists with patient care tasks such as toileting and fall prevention as directed.
