Job summary

Sovah Health in Danville, VA, is seeking a Patient Safety Attendant (Patient Sitter) for a full-time day shift. This in-person role provides direct patient observation and supports the care team to maintain patient safety for those requiring close supervision.

Responsibilities include assisting with meals, transfers, ambulation, and engagement activities; supervising at all times; following safety policies; and collaborating with RNs to ensure compassionate, continuous care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
• Flexibility in scheduling, including weekends and holidays, to ensure nursing coverage.

Responsibilities

• Provide observation for patients requiring safety supervision (suicide precautions, confused or agitated patients).
• Assist with general comfort needs, meals, and repositioning as needed.
• Assist with bed-chair transfers and transport patients as needed.
• Engage patients with diversionary activities (reading, puzzles, conversation).
• Escort patients with ambulatory privileges and supervise at all times.
• Assist patients to the bathroom and monitor safety; request assistance as needed.
