Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Michigan is seeking a Nursing Assistant to provide close observation of patients at risk and assist with activities of daily living under RN supervision. You will help maintain a safe, clean environment and support patient comfort and safety.

You will position yourself at the bedside for continuous monitoring, follow nurse instructions, and accompany patients during tests within safety guidelines. Teamwork and clear communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of a nursing assistant program and a high school diploma or GED.
• One year related healthcare experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtains verbal report of patient care needs, diagnosis, and barriers from nurse.
• Maintains constant visual observation at bedside; never leaves patient alone.
• Follows nurse instructions for ambulation limits and redirection.
• Accompanies patient during tests; remains within arm's reach unless directed.
• Provides comfort, safety, and a safe, orderly environment; works as a team.
• Communicates professionally with patient and health-care team; documents events.
• Performs related duties as required.

Position Summary: Under the supervision of an RN, provides close, continuous observation of patients who may be at risk for adverse events such as falls, self-injury or harm to others.Assists in the provision of a safe and clean environment. Provides assistance with activities of daily living, unless the patient needs are such that adverse health consequences are predictable.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities as Assigned:

• Obtains verbal report from the patient’s nurse to include information regarding the patient’s identified care needs, diagnosis, visual, auditory, or language barriers, as well as any special consideration (NPO, bed alarms, etc.).
• Positions self in patient room at bedside to maintain constant visual observation of the patient. Never leaves the patient alone or out of sight unless specifically instructed by the nurse.
• Obtains instruction from nurse regarding ambulation limitations and course of action for redirection of patient if needed.
• May not transport patient for testing and procedures off the unit but must accompany and remain within arm’s length of patient unless otherwise directed by the person performing the test or procedure.

5. Provides for patient comfort, safety, and satisfaction.Maintains patient environment in a safe and orderly manner.

6. Functions cooperatively as a team member.Responds as directed by responsible nurse to changing patients'/unit's needs.During a patient or environmental emergency, may serve as a runner or transport patients as directed.

• Communicates in a professional manner and demonstrates respect for patient, families/significant other and other health care members.

8. Accurately and legibly records data collected and notifies RN of any untoward events, i.e., behavioral changes, violent behavior, etc.

9. Performs other related duties as required and directed.
