Title

Patient Representative Central Scheduling (On-site)

Responsibilities

Patient Representatives are instrumental in ensuring the efficient and effective flow of patient access needs throughout the organization.

  • Greet and register patients accurately and efficiently.
  • Gather and enter appropriate demographic and insurance/billing information.
  • Verify insurance eligibility using online systems.
  • Provide patients with financial information and price estimates.
  • Collect and enter payments, following required balancing procedures.
  • Analyze, interpret and enter physician orders.
  • Scan and index forms.
  • Schedule and communicate appointment information accurately and efficiently for multiple facilities and ancillary departments.
  • Verify insurance for scheduled and urgent emergent patients following guidelines established per payer and obtain authorization based on payer specific criteria.
  • Accurately complete assigned work queues.
  • Identify financial counseling needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality in verbal, written and electronic communication.
  • Follow established processes, protocols, and workflows.
  • Takes initiative to resolve problems and meet patient needs.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous customer service experience required.
  • Medical Terminology, CPT and ICD-10 coding strongly preferred.
  • Basic typing at 45 WPM, basic ten key, and computer skills within a Windows environment.
  • Experience with multiple computer applications/operating systems and office machines.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and confidentiality requirements, insurance payer regulations and patient rights.
  • Knowledge of revenue cycle components and their impact on the overall process.
  • Knowledge of the impact of accurate registration on patient satisfaction.
  • Analytical skills to solve simple to semi complex problems.
  • Organization, prioritization and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Be flexible to facilitate change.
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure and high-volume work.
  • Can perform regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and light lifting.

For Cancer Center Only
  • Associate’s degree in related field, or 2 years related experience and/or training in a healthcare environment preferred.
  • Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) Preferred.
  • Assist employees and visitors with any concerns they might have.
  • Assume overall responsibility for the safety and security of designated areas.
  • Monitor security cameras and identify potential security risks and respond accordingly.
