Job summary

WHMC in Washington state is seeking a Patient Registrar to serve as a welcoming front-desk representative, registering patients accurately and courteously while upholding WHMC values and delivering an optimal patient experience.

You will answer inquiries, refer calls to appropriate departments, verify insurance, and handle pre-admission tasks in a busy hospital setting. The role is 40 hours weekly with day shifts and a competitive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent. One year of office or customer service experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Preferred: prior hospital experience; knowledge of standard office computer systems and applications; knowledge of medical insurance, terminology and fundamentals.

Responsibilities

  • Provides information to patients and visitors at the front desk.
  • Directs individuals to the appropriate department or staff member.
  • Operates multiple phone lines and transfers calls as needed.
  • Sorts incoming mail and prepares outgoing mail and cash deposits.
  • Processes cash receipts.

The Patient Registrar represents WHMC as a welcoming official to patients and visitors and is responsible for accurate and courteous registration of patients in a manner that promotes WHMC values and contributes towards an optimum patient experience.

The Patient Registrar is responsible for responding to inquiries from the general public and serves as a preliminary information resource in referring calls/inquiries to appropriate departments/personnel.

Under the direction of the Manager of Patient Financial Services the Patient Registrar should be able to register a patient and look up the patient's eligibility online.

Duties & Responsibilities
General Duties
  • Provides Information to patients and visitors and others making inquiries at the front desk.
  • Directs individuals to the appropriate department or staff member.
  • Operates multiple phone line system and admission telephone per appropriate established procedures transferring calls as needed.
  • Sorts in- coming mail.
  • Prepares outgoing mail and cash deposits.
  • Processes Cash Receipts.
  • Completes assigned tasks in a time sensitive manner.
Patient Registration
  • Interviews patients or their representative to obtain demographic and billing information via registration area or at the patient bedside.
  • Assists patients in completing the appropriate consent and/or workers compensation forms.
  • Updates patient type changes bases on Physician's orders.
  • Assists in the transportation of admitted patients to various departments throughout the hospital in urgent and emergent situations.
  • Processes pre-admission forms daily.
  • Assures information has been input properly by varying against support documents.
  • Calls insurance companies to obtain pre-admission authorization as needed.
  • Verifies insurance coverage.
Qualifications
  • Required: High School Graduate or equivalent. One (1) year of office or customers service experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Preferred: Prior experience in a hospital setting. Knowledge of standard office computer systems and applications. Knowledge of Medical insurance, terminology and fundamentals.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

This position is primarily worked in an office environment. Primarily stationary with occasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching carrying, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling of objects weighing up to 20lbs. The position requires continuous finger dexterity and fine manipulation. The employee must demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Position Details

Hours per week: 40 Employee Status: Regular Full Time Shift: Day Shift (United States of America) Pay Range: $20.00 - $35.00 Actual pay offered will vary based on years of experience.
