Job summary

TTUHSC seeks a Patient Referral Coordinator to coordinate referrals for Collaborative Care. You will liaise with patients, providers, and insurers to verify eligibility and obtain necessary pre-authorizations for requested services.

In this role, you will support timely referrals, verify pre-service information, and ensure all departments have what they need for patient appointments, enabling smooth care delivery.

Qualifications

  • Experience processing patient referrals or related insurance workflows.
  • Ability to coordinate across departments to support referrals.
  • Strong communication with patients and providers.

Responsibilities

Visa Information

TTUHSC, at its sole discretion, may initiate new H-1B I-129 visa petitions in accordance with the directive issued by Governor Abbott. Approval from the Texas Workforce Commission is required. On a limited, case-by-case basis, the institution may also sponsor eligible individuals for change-of-status or change-of-employer petitions for qualifying positions. TTUHSC will not pay the $100,000 fee, if applicable.

Position Description

Serve as a liaison between insurance and health care providers to ensure the timely coordination, and accurate processing, of patient referrals required for medical specialty visits.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Act as a Liaison between patients, providers, and insurance companies to determine patient eligibility for Collaborative Care.
  • Obtain pre-authorization information for any patient whose insurance requires pre-approval for care/service.
  • Process pre-service insurance verification on new COCM patients.
  • Communicate collaboratively between departments to ensure providers, billers, and support staff have all necessary information for a successful patient appointment.
Occasional Duties

As assigned by the Supervisor.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree plus one (1) year of experience directly related to the processing of patient referrals.
  • OR High school diploma or GED plus three (3) years of experience working as a Certified Medical Assistant.
  • OR High school diploma or GED plus five (5) years of experience directly related to patient registration, patient scheduling, patient billing/collections, the processing of prior authorizations, and/or the processing of patient referrals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of clinical practices and procedures.
  • Preferred knowledge of insurance verification and obtaining authorizations for patient care.
