Job summary

Baystate Health in Springfield, MA is seeking a part-time Patient Placement Assistant to support bed management and patient throughput. You will collect demographic, insurance and clinical information to place patients accurately and work with the patient throughput team.

The role emphasizes service excellence, professional communication, and adherence to policies. 24 hours per week, 7:00 am–7:30 pm, with weekend and holiday rotation, at Baystate Medical Center Campus.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Proven customer service experience.
  • Clinical background or direct patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process admissions and related transactions within QA thresholds and assist in reporting.
  • Collect demographic, insurance and clinical information to place the patient and support the Patient Throughput team.
  • Place patients based on clinical guidelines and collaborate with the throughput nurse; escalate issues as needed.
  • Handle calls with service-excellence, following call guides and maintaining professionalism with patients and staff.
  • Sign in/out of assigned lines and maintain call levels per monthly QA data.
  • Attend in-service meetings, maintain resources, and apply learned policies and feedback.
  • Act as a pivotal member of the throughput team and raise concerns when appropriate.
  • Communicate department concerns to the Patient Throughput nurse manager as they arise.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Processes all assigned admissions and related transactions within established monthly QA thresholds for Bed Management Dashboard, SMS, On-Line Survey, and E-mail boxes as assigned. Assists department manager in metric reporting using Excel or Microsoft word documents.
  • Collects demographic, insurance and clinical information necessary to appropriately place the patient, assists in supportive role for the Patient Throughput team including transfer service functions.
  • Collects information via software systems to proficiently place patients based on clinical guidelines, collaborate with the Patient throughput nurse to place patients, escalates issues patient placement charge nurse as they arise.
  • Process all calls in a Service Excellence oriented manner. Adheres to call guides and flows. Communicates in a professional manner appropriate and respectful to the age/comprehension level of the patient and/or family member as well as hospital staff
  • Maintains call levels/call guides based on data from monthly telephone Quality Assurance. Signs in and out of correct lines assigned
  • Problem Solving. Recognizes and communicates problems to the right person/system. Offers constructive ideas/suggestions for solving problems.
  • Learning. Attends required in-service/meetings. Maintains resource materials. Applies acquired skills. Adheres to policy & procedures. Accepts/encourages assessment/feedback from peers and manager.

  • Functions as a pivotal part of the throughput team, reports concerns as they arise to the appropriate person.

Qualification:
  • High School Diploma or GED
Required Work Experience:
  • Proven customer service experience, ability to synthesize clinical information to properly place patients to the correct location
Preferred Work Experience:
  • Clinical background, Direct Patient care experience preferred
SCHEDULE:
  • 24 hours
  • 7a-7:30p
  • Weekend and holiday rotation

The base pay range shown above considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including knowledge/skills; relevant experience and training; education/certifications/licensure; and other business and organizational factors. This base pay range does not include our comprehensive benefits package and any incentive payments that may be applicable to this role.

Compensation

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
