Job summary

Palomino Place in Mesquite, TX is seeking a Cook/Assistant Chef to prepare patient meals in accordance with approved menus and in a sanitized environment. The role requires ensuring meals meet flavor and temperature requirements and adhering to strict food-handling guidelines.

Responsibilities include labeling and storing items, assisting Nutrition Services Director in training staff, and contributing to inventory control while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations.

Qualifications

• Current state Food Manager Certificate.
• Experience in quality food preparation and production in either long-term care or healthcare setting is preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and speak the English language.

Responsibilities

• Prepares or directs preparation of food items on assigned menus.
• Maintains sanitation of equipment, utensils, and storage areas by cleaning immediately after use.
• Labels, dates, and stores food items/leftovers after use.
• Ensures proper flavor and temperature of trays before serving.
• Assists in training, orientation and supervision of Nutrition Services staff as needed.
• Instruct and supervise workers in maintenance and care of equipment in absence of leadership.
• Determines that food is prepared and served on trays attractively and at correct temperatures.
• Maintains portion control and checks food supplies on order forms as items arrive.
• Logs and records temperatures of food, refrigerators, freezers, and dispensers.
