Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• BLS from American Heart Association required.
• Prior hospital experience as Unit Secretary or Ward Clerk strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receives and directs patients, visitors and hospital personnel arriving on or calling the patient care unit.
• Receives requests from patients and families and refers requests to the nurse or appropriate hospital personnel.
• Provides information regarding patient location.
• Records and delivers messages for patients and staff.
• Receives and distributes mail and various other items for patients and staff on the unit.
• In collaboration with the Nurse Manager/Charge Nurse, and other unit staff, orders and maintains the appropriate quantity of forms, materials, supplies, and equipment, par levels on assigned unit.
• Enters requests for work orders, computer issues etc. into the computer system.
• Accurately enters and updates patient data in the computer system in a timely manner.
• Performs 1:1's and enhanced supervisions.
• Answers call bells and phones, hand washing observations.
• Performs unit errands as requested such as retrieve wheelchairs, pick up from the blood bank, pharmacy, stock room, transports discharged patients to the door, etc.
• Receives and communicates all pertinent information to appropriate personnel.
• Maintains a clean, safe and functional working environment in the nursing station.
