Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Security Officer I to protect patients, staff and visitors across its hospital facilities. Under security leadership, you will follow ethics and compliance programs while enforcing policies and coordinating with medical staff during incidents.

You will perform patrols, monitor access and alarms, respond to emergencies, and assist with investigations, reporting, and crowd control as needed.

Qualifications

• Interpersonal and communication skills to interact with a variety of individuals including staff, patients and visitors.
• Writing skills to complete reports meet departmental standards.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 9 months of hire.
• Complete IAHSS Basic exam within 90 days of hire and maintain certification.

Responsibilities

• Investigates incidents and disturbances to maintain security.
• Notifies city officials and prepares incident reports.
• Patrols hospital premises by foot and vehicle to protect people and property.
• Investigates hazardous conditions or theft and security issues.
• Monitors access control, duress alarms, and surveillance systems.
• Controls traffic to ensure EMS access and patient safety.
• Escort staff to vehicles as needed.
• Provide care and safe transfer of deceased bodies per policy.
• Respond to emergency codes per guidelines.
• Enforce hospital policies and maintain professional conduct.
