Job summary

Tampa Family Health Centers, Inc. is seeking a Financial Counselor to join our team in Tampa, FL. This role determines insurance eligibility, conducts financial screenings, and guides patients through payment options to ensure access to affordable care.

The Financial Counselor collaborates with front office, clinical, and support teams to maintain compliance and a seamless patient experience, while safeguarding HIPAA standards and supporting TFHC’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in healthcare financial counseling, insurance verification, or patient access preferred.
• Strong communication and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Screen patients for insurance eligibility and verify income.
• Complete financial re-screens and update demographics and pay categories.
• Review uninsured patients and establish payment plans and expiration dates.
• Obtain insurance authorizations and coordinate with registration staff.
• Provide patients with required financial documentation and correspondence.
• Ensure sliding fee scale patients complete required acknowledgements.
• Coordinate emergency visit authorizations as needed.
• Maintain HIPAA confidentiality and assist front office operations as needed.
• Recall patients for required screenings per pay plan guidelines.
• Participate in team meetings and support TFHC’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Qualifications

Please note that the employee’s initial training schedule may differ from the regular schedule of the position. All new hires, including part-time employees, must be available for up to 40 hours of in-person, on-site training during their first week. Training may take place at a TFHC location other than the employee’s assigned work location.
