Job summary

Sunrise, serving Dreem Health, seeks a detail-oriented Medical Billing Associate to join our remote Revenue Cycle Management team. You’ll manage the full billing cycle—from accurate code assignment and claim submission to payment posting and denial resolution.

Focus on clean claims, timely reimbursement, HIPAA compliance, and collaboration with the billing, accounts receivable, and other teams to research issues and document every patient interaction for a clear audit trail.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting.
• Sleep Medicine and/or DME billing experience preferred.
• Experience in collections, including patient balance collections.
• Customer service experience with handling sensitive or frustrated callers.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving ability to research and resolve issues independently.
• Exceptional organization with multiple accounts and deadlines.
• Comfort with billing systems, practice management tools, email, and spreadsheets.
• Good people skills: empathy and patience; respect patient privacy (HIPAA).
• Spanish-speaking a plus.

Responsibilities

• Account balance inquiries. Respond to patient inquiries by phone, email, or secure messaging.
• Explain insurance coverage and patient responsibilities clearly (deductibles, copays, coinsurance, EOBs).
• Collect patient payments and follow up on outstanding balances with courtesy.
• Set up, document, and monitor payment plans per policy.
• Process medical records requests, verify authorization, ensure HIPAA compliance.
• Collaborate with billing, AR, and other revenue cycle teams to resolve issues.
• Document every patient interaction clearly in the billing system.
• Identify trends and suggest improvements to statements and communications.
• Maintain HIPAA and company compliance standards.

Your Opportunity

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Billing Associate to join our remote Revenue Cycle Management team. This role is responsible for the full billing cycle - from accurate code assignment and claim submission through payment posting, denial resolution, and collections - with a focus on clean claims, timely reimbursement, and compliance.

What You'll Do

• Account balance inquiries. Respond to patient inquiries about account balances, statements, and charges by phone, email, and secure messaging, resolving concerns accurately and promptly.
• Insurance coverage questions. Explain insurance coverage and benefits in plain language, including deductibles, copays, coinsurance, explanations of benefits, and patient responsibility for services and equipment.
• Patient payment collection. Collect patient payments, including balances due, and follow up on outstanding patient accounts with a courteous, solution-focused approach.
• Payment plan management. Set up, document, and monitor payment plans, follow up on missed or late payments, and adjust plans according to company policy.
• Medical records requests. Process medical records requests from patients and authorized parties, verifying authorization and following HIPAA requirements.
• Cross-team collaboration. Partner with the billing, accounts receivable, and other revenue cycle teams to research and resolve account issues, and escalate complex cases appropriately.
• Documentation. Document every patient interaction clearly and completely in our billing system so any team member can pick up an account.
• Continuous improvement. Identify recurring questions or trends in patient inquiries and share feedback to help improve statements, communications, and processes.
• Compliance. Protect patient privacy and follow all HIPAA and company compliance standards.

What You Bring

• 5+ years of experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting.
• Experience in Sleep Medicine and/or DME billing strongly preferred.
• Experience in collections, including patient balance collections.
• Experience in a customer service role, including handling sensitive or frustrated callers with patience and professionalism.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to research and resolve account issues independently.
• Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple accounts, deadlines, and follow-ups.
• Comfort with technology, including billing and practice management systems, email, and spreadsheets, and the ability to learn new tools quickly.
• Good people skills: empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help patients.
• Working knowledge of HIPAA and patient privacy requirements.
• Genuine interest in sleep, health, and helping people better understand and improve their well-being.
• Spanish-speaking (bilingual English/Spanish) is a plus.

Compensation

$26.00 - $28.00 per hour depending on experience.

Compensation Range - Depending on Experience: $26 USD - $28 USD
