Job summary

Sherman Oaks Hospital is seeking an Insurance Verifier/Financial Counselor to determine patient liability and communicate expected costs before elective procedures. You will verify eligibility, gather accurate demographic data, and assist with arrangements for patient responsibility at discharge.

Work closely with Case Management to secure authorizations as needed, while delivering strong customer service and analytical problem-solving in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of standard insurance companies and verification requirements.
• Authorization processes for all payers.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize needs to meet required timelines.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Customer Services experience required.
• High School Graduate or GED Equivalent Required (effective 4/1/14 for all new hires)

Responsibilities

• Determine patient liability based on benefits and advise patient of their liability prior to scheduled elective procedures.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for emergent and urgent admissions, procedures or other services.
• Verify and secure accurate patient demographic and insurance information, updating patient account information as needed.
• Assist patients in making arrangements for patient responsibility by discharge time for emergent or urgent services.
• Screens and refers patients for government assistance programs, Charity or Discounts per policy.
• Collaborate with Case Management to secure Medicaid/Medical treatment authorizations as needed.
