Job summary

Qualifications

• Six months of financial counseling experience in a hospital/physician office setting.
• Experience with insurance benefits, pre-certification, and collection of monies.
• Knowledge of in-network vs. out-of-network benefits and negotiations is preferred.
• Basic medical terminology and ICD-9 coding experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtain accurate patient data for financial clearance of admissions.
• Interview patients to determine funding source information.
• Determine benefit level and coordination of benefits for services.
• Perform pre-certification, referral coordination, and financial counseling.
• Communicate with pay patients about charges and assist with payment arrangements.
• Collect copays, coinsurance and other monies owed by patients.
• Ensure financial clearance for timely reimbursement for services rendered at UH.
