Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Financial Screening: interview patients and families to evaluate ability to pay and determine eligibility for government or internal assistance programs.
• Insurance Verification: verify insurance eligibility, check benefits, and obtain necessary pre-authorizations for procedures.
• Cost Estimation: explain out-of-pocket costs, deductibles, copays, and good faith estimates to patients.
• Assistance Program Navigation: guide patients through applications for Medicaid, Medicare, state programs, and charity care.
• Payment Collection: establish structured payment plans and collect point-of-service payments professionally.
• System Documentation: maintain records of insurance details, financial agreements, and patient notes in the EHR.

Scheurer Health, a Critical Access rural hospital, is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Patient Financial Advisor to join our team in Pigeon, MI. The ideal candidate will have experience as a patient financial counselor and be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Financial Screening: Interview patients and families to evaluate their ability to pay and determine eligibility for government or internal assistance programs.
• Insurance Verification: Verify insurance eligibility, check benefits, and obtain necessary pre-authorizations for medical procedures.
• Cost Estimation: Calculate and explain out-of-pocket costs, deductibles, copays, and good faith estimates to patients prior to or during treatment.
• Assistance Program Navigation: Guide patients through applications for Medicaid, Medicare, state programs, and the hospital’s charity care programs.
• Payment Collection: Establish structured payment plans and collect point-of-service payments in a professional, compliant, and empathetic manner.
• System Documentation: Maintain precise records of insurance details, financial agreements, and patient notes within the electronic health record (EHR) system.
