Job summary

Genentech seeks a Patient Experience (PX) Business Designer to evaluate the commercial viability of patient experience concepts and translate them into rigorous financial models and KPIs. You will bridge creative design with business execution to maximize patient impact across our portfolio.

You will collaborate with Finance, Data, Digital & Analytics, RDT, Activation & Capabilities Enablement, and Experience Design teams to shape metrics, funding, and value realization for future-state patient

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, public health, or related discipline.
  • 4-7 years of professional experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, or healthcare.
  • Strong financial modeling, value case development, and scenario/risk analysis capabilities.
  • Excellent presentation and executive communication skills.
  • Ability to connect patient outcomes and experience metrics to enterprise value and KPI frameworks.

Responsibilities

The Opportunity

As a Patient Experience (PX) Business Designer, you will evaluate the commercial viability and financial scalability of patient experience concepts designed across our portfolio. In doing so, you will bridge the gap between creative design and business execution to maximize patient impact by transforming complex healthcare navigation into frictionless, patient-first solutions that ensure every innovation translates into tangible value for those we serve.

  • Apply strategic frameworks to assess opportunity spaces and potential patient experience concepts, providing a clear business lens to support patient opportunity prioritization.
  • Define patient outcome metrics (e.g., time to therapy, persistence, patient-reported experience) alongside commercial KPIs to prioritize concepts with the greatest patient benefit.
  • Translate patient experience concepts into rigorous commercial and financial models to evaluate cost structures, revenue potential, KPIs, and long-term viability.
  • Identify and articulate both financial and non-financial value drivers (e.g., adherence, brand differentiation, ecosystem positioning) to guide design trade-off decisions.
  • Quantify risks and sensitivity scenarios using discovery-driven planning to build phased investment models for future-state patient solutions.
  • Inform the business architecture underpinning patient programs, including vendor strategy, funding models, and value realization tracking.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Data, Digital, & Analytics, RDT, Activation & Capabilities Enablement, Experience Design teams to provide budget inputs and recommendations on scale, pivot, or sunset calls.

Who You Are

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, public health, or a related discipline.
  • Bring 4-7 years of professional experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, or healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrate strong financial modeling, value case development, and scenario/risk analysis capabilities.
  • Possess strong presentation and executive communication skills with an ability to translate technical data into strategic insights.
  • Show proven ability to connect patient outcomes and experience metrics directly to enterprise value and KPI frameworks.

Preferred Experience

  • Advanced degree in business or quantitative field (i.e. MBA, MPH)
  • Experience applying human-centered design principles or working alongside experienced design/innovation teams.
  • Familiarity with healthcare access pathways, reimbursement models, and digital health technology trends.

Location

  • This role is based in South San Francisco and offers a hybrid schedule working 3 days per week on campus
  • No relocation benefits are available for this posting

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $130,800 - $243,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed in this link.
