Akumin is a leading provider of outpatient radiology and oncology services. The Patient Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring a positive patient experience through customer service and patient care tasks.
Responsibilities
- Greet and assist patients, customers, and visitors in person and over the phone.
- Perform patient registration in various systems.
- Answer all phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
- Collect patient responsibilities and verify insurance coverage; obtain prior authorizations.
- Assist with patient assistance, including preliminary screening, medical history, and transportation to/from the exam room.
- Help with patient transfer on/off the exam table.
- Provide patients with preliminary and post‑procedure instructions.
- Assist in preparing the mobile unit for transport and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Order supplies and ensure supplies are properly stocked.
- Ensure accuracy of patient records and document visits in electronic systems.
- Schedule patient appointments and obtain insurance verification or authorization as needed.
- Prepare medical records for physicians, patients, and customers.
- Assist clinical staff with documentation and image delivery to the patient, physician, or contracted customer.
- Perform all duties in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Execute other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
- CPR Certification required for Mobile Radiology and Oncology; a plus for Fixed Radiology.
- Valid state driver’s license and ability to work at several locations.
- Strong customer service, organizational, and multi‑tasking skills.
- Basic knowledge of computer applications and programs.
- Local travel may be required to support multiple sites.
- Preferred: Six months of customer service or related experience and/or training.
- Preferred: Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Preferred: Bilingual in Spanish.

Physical Requirements
- May be exposed to outside weather conditions and medical hazards during patient transport.
- May encounter strong magnetic fields or radioactive material.
- May be exposed to blood/body fluids and infectious disease and environmental hazards such as noise and travel.
- More than 50% of the time: sit, stand, and walk; repetitive hand, arm, and leg movements; see, speak, and hear to communicate with patients.
- Less than 50% of the time: stoop, kneel, crawl; climb and balance; carry and lift, including moving non‑ambulatory patients.
