Job summary

Akumin is seeking a Patient Coordinator for our Boca Raton facility. This part-time role runs Mon-Fri from 10:30am to 5:00pm and involves greeting patients, registering them in multiple systems, and answering calls with professionalism.

You may assist in insurance verification, pre-authorization, and scheduling, while maintaining accurate records. The position requires a High School Diploma, CPR certification, and the ability to work at multiple sites.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• CPR certification must be obtained prior to hire (Mobile Radiology/Oncology depending on assignment).
• Valid state driver’s license may be required.
• Ability to work at multiple locations and travel to support sites.
• Pre-employment background check and drug screen required.

Responsibilities

• Greets and assists patients, customers and visitors in person and over the phone.
• Performs patient registration in various systems.
• Answers all phone calls professionally and courteously.
• Collects time-of-service payments when applicable.
• Verifies insurance coverage and obtains prior authorization when needed.
• Maintains patient records accurately across electronic and written documents.
• Schedules patient appointments and communicates instructions.
• Transports patients and assists with transfers and pre/post procedures.
• Keeps work area clean, organized and stocked with supplies.
• Complies with HIPAA regulations and company policies.

We are currently hiring for a Patient Coordinator at our Boca Raton facility. This will be a part time position Mon-Fri from 10:30a-5pm.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

• Greets and assists patients, customers and visitors in person and over the phone.
• Will perform patient registration in various systems.
• Answers all phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
• May collect monies for time-of-service patient responsibility.
• May be responsible for verifying insurance coverage and obtain prior authorization.
• Patient Assistance:
  • May perform preliminary screening of patients prior to procedures, which may include medical history.
  • May transport patient to/from the exam room.
  • May assist in patient transfer on/off the exam table.
  • May transport patient to/from the exam room.
  • May provide the patient with preliminary and post-procedure instructions.
• Work Area & Supply Preparation:
  • In the mobile setting, may assist in preparing the unit for transport.
  • Will maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • May order supplies and ensure the work area is properly stocked.
• Documentation:
  • Will ensure accuracy of patient records.
  • May schedule patient appointments and obtain insurance verification and/or authorization.
  • May prepare medical records for physicians, patients and customers.
  • Ensures accurate documentation of patient visits in various electronic systems and on written documents.
  • May assist the clinical staff with documentation and image delivery to the patient, physician, or contracted customer.
• Performs all duties within HIPAA regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
• For Mobile Radiology and Oncology, CPR Certification must be obtained prior to hire.
• For Fixed Radiology, CPR Certification is a plus.
• As applicable, valid state driver's license required.
• Ability to work at several locations required.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Organizational and multi-tasking skills.
• Basic knowledge of computer applications and programs.
• Local travel may be required to support multiple sites.
• The COVID-19 vaccination is/may be a condition of employment.
• All candidates who accept an offer for employment will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment background check and drug screen as a condition of employment.

Preferred

• Six months customer service or related experience and/or training.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus.
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
