Job summary

Akumin Inc. in Miami Beach is seeking a Patient Coordinator to deliver a smooth patient experience at our outpatient radiology and oncology site. You will greet patients, handle registrations, answer calls, collect payments, verify coverage, and assist with procedures.

This full-time role requires strong customer service, organization, and the ability to work across multiple sites. CPR may be required for mobile radiology; bilingual Spanish is a plus, and a valid driver's license could be needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
• For Mobile Radiology and Oncology, CPR Certification must be obtained prior to hire.
• For Fixed Radiology, CPR Certification is a plus.
• Valid state driver's license may be required.
• Ability to work at several locations and travel locally.
• COVID-19 vaccination may be a condition of employment.
• Pre-employment background check and drug screen required.
• Preferred six months of customer service or related experience and/or training.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus.
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Answers all phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
• May collect monies for time-of-service patient responsibility.
• May verify insurance coverage and obtain prior authorization.
• May perform preliminary screening of patients prior to procedures.
• May transport patient to/from the exam room.
• May assist in patient transfer on/off the exam table.
• May provide preliminary and post-procedure instructions.
• Maintains a clean and organized work area.
• May schedule patient appointments and obtain insurance verification/authorization.
• Ensures accurate documentation of patient visits in electronic and written records.
• May assist clinical staff with documentation and image delivery to patient/physician.
• Complies with HIPAA regulations.

We are currently hiring for a Patient Coordinator at our Miami Beach facility. This will be a full-time position with the hours of M-F from 7a-3:30p.

Responsibility Overview

The Patient Coordinator is responsible for performing a variety of customer service and patient care tasks to ensure a positive patient experience.

Ensures documentation and patient records are prepared and organized.

Ensures patients have a clear understanding of what to expect during and after their appointment.

Responsibilities

• Greets and assists patients, customers and visitors in person and over the phone.
• Will perform patient registration in various systems.

• May collect monies for time-of-service patient responsibility.
• May be responsible for verifying insurance coverage and obtain prior authorization.
• May perform preliminary screening of patients prior to procedures, which may include medical history.
• May transport patient to/from the exam room.
• May assist in patient transfer on/off the exam table.
• May transport patient to/from the exam room.
• May provide the patient with preliminary and post-procedure instructions.
• In the mobile setting, may assist in preparing the unit for transport.
• Will maintain a clean and organized work area.
• May order supplies and ensure the work area is properly stocked.
• Will ensure accuracy of patient records.
• May schedule patient appointments and obtain insurance verification and/or authorization.
• May prepare medical records for physicians, patients and customers.
• Ensures accurate documentation of patient visits in various electronic systems and on written documents.
• May assist the clinical staff with documentation and image delivery to the patient, physician, or contracted customer.
• Performs all duties within HIPAA regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
• For Mobile Radiology and Oncology, CPR Certification must be obtained prior to hire.
• For Fixed Radiology, CPR Certification is a plus.
• As applicable, valid state driver's license required.
• Ability to work at several locations required.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Organizational and multi-tasking skills.
• Basic knowledge of computer applications and programs.
• Local travel may be required to support multiple sites.
• The COVID-19 vaccination is/may be a condition of employment.
