Job summary

UMC Health System seeks a Patient Representative to assist patients with questions about their bills and services rendered. You will reproduce patient bills for collections and coordinate with hospital staff, payers, and other parties to ensure accuracy and timely processing.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or equivalent required.

  • Experience handling patient billing questions and supporting collections.
  • Working with third party payers for reimbursement.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with questions concerning their bills or services rendered at UMC.
  • Reproduce patient bills for collections and patient care as required by hospital personnel, payers and other parties.
  • Maintain professional relationships with co-workers, patients, and family members and coordinate with Third Party Payers for reimbursement.

Education and Experience

High School Graduate or equivalent required.

Environmental / Working Conditions

Work in a well-lighted, heated and ventilated building. Hours may vary to accommodate needs of other departments.

Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships

Must be able to communicate in a professional manner at all times with co-workers, patients and family members. Must be able to maintain a working relationship with Third Party Payers for reimbursement purposes.

Job Description

It is the goal of Patient Representative to assist patients with questions concerning their bill or any other questions regarding services rendered at UMC. The Patient Rep will reproduce patient bills for the purpose of collections and patient care, as required by the hospital personnel, payers, and other various parties exhibiting a vested interest in the integrity of the bill.

Physical Capabilities

Work is of medium demand; walking, sitting and standing most of the time while on-duty. Occasional lifting of equipment is required. Adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills required for typing. Talking and hearing is essential in dealing with co-workers and customers.

Skills and Abilities

Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.

Mainframe computer skills.

Basic accounting and detailed clerical skills.

Possess customer relation skills.

Highly technical and problem solving skills.

Ability to adapt to changes.
