Job summary

Beacon Health System is seeking a Hospital Patient Chef in the Nutritional Services Department at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN. This full-time day position offers premium pay and opportunities to impact patient care through high-quality meals.

You will follow recipes, ensure dietary compliance, and collaborate with dietitians and chefs while maintaining food safety, inventory, and a positive patient dining experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must be a minimum of 17 years of age.
• Culinary/cooking program completion preferred; ACF certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook high-quality hot and cold food items for patients, staff, and events.
• Follow recipes, portion controls, nutritional guidelines, and safety standards.
• Plate patient meals with attractive presentation and dietary compliance.
• Plan ingredients and menus in advance to support efficient operations.
• Deliver food to service areas to meet meal service schedules.
• Maintain a clean, safe, sanitary kitchen environment.
• Monitor inventory, report shortages, and communicate equipment issues.
• Complete production records and participate in QA and process improvements.
• Collaborate with chefs, dietitians, and food service team on menu planning.
• Provide guidance and training on advanced food preparation techniques.
• Maintain ServSafe certification requirements and stay current on food safety regs.
• Participate in meetings, continuing education, and special projects.
• Maintain flexibility to work varying schedules, overtime, and additional shifts.
