Job summary

Indiana University Health Paoli Medical Surgical Unit seeks a Patient Care Technician to deliver direct patient care and support to the care team. The role includes unit clerical tasks, maintaining a clean environment, and assisting with tests, procedures, and patient records under nurse supervision.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED, CPR certification, and basic computer skills. Experience or training in PCA programs and infection control is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CPR may be required to complete Unit Secretary training program.
• Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or IU Health PCA program.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of infection control principles.
• Basic computer skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care and unit clerical duties for the department.
• Administers care to designated patients under the direction of a Clinical Nurse and supports the patient care team.
• Ensures a clean and orderly environment for the patient.
• Provides information, directions and assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors.
• May schedule tests and procedures, maintain patient records and sign patients in and out of the unit.
• May be responsible for ordering, receiving and delivering equipment and supplies for the patient care team.
• May provide continuous observation including suicide prevention.
