Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Unit Secretary who delivers direct patient care and essential clerical support on the unit under a Clinical Nurse's supervision. You will help keep the environment clean, assist the care team, and communicate with physicians, patients, families and vendors to coordinate care.

The role may involve scheduling tests, maintaining patient records, signing patients in and out, and handling equipment and supplies.

Qualifications

• Previous acute patient care experience or completion of IU Health PCA program.
• Current Basic Life Support certification (AHA) or completion of IU Health PCA program.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of patient care procedures and standards.
• Knowledge of infection control principles.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and unit clerical duties under RN supervision.
• Support the patient care team and maintain a clean, orderly unit.
• Assist with scheduling tests and procedures; maintain patient records.
• Sign patients in/out and manage equipment and supplies.
• Provide information and directions to physicians, patients, families, and vendors.
• May provide continuous observation including suicide prevention.
