Job summary

Baystate Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the WETU in Springfield, MA. The role supports nurses and providers with examinations, treatments, and patient care in a busy medical center.

The position requires GED or HiSET and BLS/CNA certifications, with day shifts on a per diem schedule. You will document vitals, assist with procedures, and monitor patients while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Provides safe, age-appropriate patient care and documents vital signs, intake/output, and changes in condition.

• Assists nurses and providers with examinations, treatments, and patient cares.
• Communicates effectively with patients and team; supports clinical and non-clinical staff.
• Maintains patient safety and initiates emergency procedures when needed.

Baystate Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to join our WETU Department team at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts . Our WETU team provides care to a diverse adult patient population, working closely with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver safe, compassionate, high-quality care.

Patient Care Technician Responsibilities Include:

• Patient Care & Monitoring: Provides safe, age-appropriate care; obtains and documents vital signs, measurements, intake/output, and changes in patient condition; promptly reports concerns to the appropriate clinical team member.
• Clinical Procedures & Testing: Performs approved treatments and procedures, including dressing changes, specimen collection, EKGs, Point-of-Care testing, and other unit-specific clinical functions in accordance with Baystate Health policies.
• Treatment & Provider Support: Assists nurses and providers with examinations, treatments, procedures, elimination needs, and other delegated patient care activities; monitors patients and reports unexpected changes.
• Communication & Teamwork: Communicates respectfully and effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team; recognizes culturally based needs and supports both clinical and non-clinical team activities.
• Patient Safety & Emergency Response: Maintains patient safety, initiates appropriate emergency procedures, provides one-to-one patient observation when required, and maintains required clinical competencies.

Schedule Details

Job Type: Per Diem

Shift: Day, 7am-7:30pm

Schedule: 12-hour shifts

Weekend Requirement: Weekend Rotation

Holiday Requirements: Holiday Rotation

No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
