Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Patient Care Tech to support nursing staff under RN supervision. You will perform basic patient care activities, monitor vitals, assist with activities of daily living, and help keep rooms clean and orderly.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or nursing student with one semester of clinical.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
• Phlebotomy experience or completion of CNA/phlebotomy course preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming and eating.
• Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Keeps patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and multitasking under pressure.
• Uses critical thinking to prioritize and complete unit work as needs change.
• Serves as liaison between patient care units and other departments.
• Answers telephone, intercom and call lights politely and shares information with staff, family, or patients.
• Manages overall unit workflow with the charge RN or assistant manager as needed.
• Performs pre-census and validates daily admission, discharge and census lists as needed.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

CNA, CMA, EMT or nursing student (1 semester clinical)

American Heart Association BLS

Phlebotomy experience or CNA/phlebotomy course (preferred)
