Job summary

Knoxville Hospital and Clinics in Knoxville, IA, is seeking a Patient Care Technician/Unit Clerk for a full-time day shift (7am-7pm; every third weekend 6am-6pm). You will support the nursing team, handle clerical tasks, and help maintain a calm, safe patient environment.

Ideal candidates hold a high school diploma, a 75-hour nurse aide course, current BCLS, and prior patient care and clerical experience, with strong customer service skills and the ability to follow directions from supervisors.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of at least a 75-hour nurse aide course on hire.
  • Prior patient care, telephone, clerical and computer experience required.
  • Current BCLS certification and ability to read, write and follow instructions.
  • Mandatory Reporter certification or ability to acquire within 3 months.
  • Demonstrates empathy and kindness toward patients and visitors.
  • Able to accept directions from nursing supervisors.
  • Friendly attitude and excellent customer service.
  • Complete annual competency training and maintain licensure/certification.

Patient Care Technician/Unit Clerk – FT Days

This is a Full-time Days position working 7am-7pm when Unit Clerk and every third weekend from 6am-6pm when Patient Care Technician.

The Patient Care Technician in an integral part of the nursing care team who works under the direction and supervision of RNs/LPNs. The PCT/UC is a specialty trained nursing assistant in the nursing unit who is responsible for the clerical and receptionist functions of the unit.

Essential Functions:

  • Promptly answers telephone calls and routes call appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Reflect an atmosphere of calmness and professionalism to patients, visitors, and other health team members through a courteous and tactful approach.
  • Aid the patient in carrying out ADLs.
  • Performs nursing and non-nursing tasks.
  • Identify potential problems and communicate them appropriately.
  • Work cooperatively with other members of the health care team to assist in attainment of patient goals and to provide a clean, safe, and pleasant environment.
  • Consistently demonstrates competence and proficiency in Ward Clerk responsibilities and procedures.
  • Provide nutritional and hydration support and assist patients with personal hygiene/elimination needs.
  • Consistently demonstrate an awareness and understanding of patient needs for personal care and comfort.
  • Consistently take and record temperatures and other vitals and output of other measurements as applicable and report any abnormal vital signs to appropriate staff.
  • Assist nurses with treatments and procedures as directed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assume responsibility for patient belongings and personal property.
  • Strictly follows and enforces the principles of infection control standards.
  • Maintains health testing requirements.
  • Maintains current certifications / training in BCLS.
  • Completes required competencies annually.
  • Attends required unit meetings and in-services or reading minutes.
  • Adheres to KHC compliance policies.

Job Requirements:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Certification from at least a 75-hour nurse aide course on hire.
  • Previous patient care experience, telephone, clerical and computer experience required.
  • Current BCLS certification must be able to read, write and follow written or oral instructions.
  • Current Mandatory Reporter or acquire within three months of hire.
  • Must display a high degree of empathetic understanding and kindness towards patients and visitors.
  • Must be able to accept directions from nursing supervisors.
  • Must possess friendly attitude and excellent customer service.
  • Required to complete all annual competency training and maintain license and/or certification.
