Qualifications

• High School Diploma and two years of experience in health care delivery (e.g., Nursing Assistant, Home Health Aide, EMT) or two clinical nursing semesters.
• Under supervision of a licensed nurse, performs basic and some specialized patient care duties.
• Ability to perform venipuncture, EKGs, telemetry readings and related data recording.

Responsibilities

• Participates in delivering patient care by performing basic and selected procedures defined by the Patient Care Technician skill list.
• Under direct supervision, provides care affecting patient well-being, comfort, and safety.
• Performs technical procedures and reports findings to nursing staff, including venipuncture and telemetry tasks.
• Collects patient data and documents it on appropriate flow sheets.
• Collects specimens or sends them to the lab per hospital policies.
• Attends to patients’ environmental needs and comfort as directed by the nurse.
• Participates in Quality Assurance activities as directed by the nurse.
• Orients patient/family to unit and provides copies of the Patients’ Bill of Rights.
• Performs other duties as assigned to support unit functioning and patient care.
