Job summary

Boston Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Technician for our Critical Care/3W IMCU department. This 32-hour-per-week, permanent night shift role includes every other weekend and is based in the 3 West Step Down unit.

As a PCT, you will work under the RN and support direct clinical tasks, vital signs, hygiene, and patient-family needs while maintaining a patient-centered care environment and collaborating with the healthcare team.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • BLS certification with CPR current or obtained within 30 days.
  • Ability to pass clinical competency testing.
  • Physical ability to meet job responsibilities.
  • Basic math and computer proficiency.
  • Fluency in another language is a plus.
  • Previous medical/surgical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform delegated patient care interventions in the Critical Care department and for families.
  • Clinical tasks could include vital signs, bathing, feeding, wound care, hygiene, room cleaning, and emotional support.
  • Perform environmental and inventory tasks to maintain a safe, clean environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Contribute to the efficient operation of the Critical Care dept, ensuring quality patient/family outcomes.

Position: Patient Care Technician
Location: 3 West Step Down
Schedule: 32 Hours, Permanent Night shift including Every Other Weekend
ABOUT THE Critical Care/ 3W IMCU DEPARTMENT AT BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER:

BMC’s Surgical Step Down unit is a 38-bed unit providing care for intermediate level surgical patients. The patient population consists of post-operative and surgical specialty patients, including trauma, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, transplant patients and cardiothoracic surgery.

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Patient Care Technician in our Critical Care department, you will be a key member of the healthcare team at BMC. Under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice, our Patient Care Technicians provide direct clinical and support services. Using our patient-centered care model and uplifted by a supportive nursing organization, you will participate in the delivery of care to our patients and their families. You will also work cooperatively with all healthcare team members to provide a variety of support services to meet patient, family, and staff needs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the Critical Care department and their families.
  • Clinical services could include, but are not limited to: obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.
  • Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the Critical Care dept.
  • Contribute to the efficient operation of the Critical Care dept, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.
JOB REQUIREMENTS :
  • A high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment)
  • Ability to pass clinical competency testing
  • Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
  • Basic math and computer proficiency
  • One of the following:
  • Fluency in another language a plus
  • Previous medical/surgical experience preferred

Compensation Range:

$23.19- $27.17

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer.
