Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Patient Care Technician to assist with patient care, activities of daily living, and basic therapies under the supervision of registered nurses. Responsibilities include monitoring vital signs, blood glucose, specimen collection, I&O, and assisting with phlebotomy or EKG when qualified.

You will report equipment issues, communicate with health care teams, participate in unit activities, document in the medical record, and help ensure patient safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
• 1+ year healthcare experience preferred.
• Completion of UPMC patient care technician class.
• EMT/Paramedic program preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient procedures and activities of daily living.
• Perform core nursing assistant tasks (vital signs, I&O, glucose, specimens).
• Report equipment malfunctions and coordinate with departments.
• Provide patient and family instruction under RN direction.
• Maintain safety and professional behavior; document in medical records.
• Support unit activities and respond to call lights; assist with restraints as directed.
