3M HEALTHCARE in Arlington Heights, IL is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Acute Rehab Unit on nights to support patient needs and safety.

This per diem Level 1 role requires CNA training or EMT/paramedic coursework, CPR certification, and a high school diploma, with hours 7:00 pm–7:30 am and orientation prior to start.

The role involves assisting with personal care, monitoring vital signs, documenting in EMR, and collaborating with nurses to ensure quality care.

Qualifications

• CPR certification from a recognized body is required.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of an accredited CNA course and CNA certification, EMT or paramedic training, or current enrollment in a nursing program with a clinical rotation is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with personal care needs under RN/LPN supervision.
• Assist with exercising and ambulating patients; ensure safety and comfort.
• Obtain vital signs and input/output; report abnormalities to nurse.
• Perform procedures as directed by RN/LPN (EKGs, Foley care, etc.).
• Collect specimens and document care in the EMR.
• Assist with admissions, discharges, transfers, and patient transport as needed.
• Answer unit phones and direct calls accordingly.

Position Overview

Hourly Pay Range: $18.84 - $27.32. Position: Patient Care Technician – Acute Rehab Unit – Nights. Location: Arlington Heights, IL.

Per Diem Level 1. Must work at least 48 hours every 6 weeks, including 24 weekend hours if needed. Must attend orientation on Monday–Thursday, week of start (8:00am–4:30pm). Hours: 7:00pm–7:30am. This is a year‑round position, not seasonally available.

What You Will Do

• Assist patients with personal care needs (bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, use of bedpan or urinal, positioning, bed making, etc.) under the supervision of an RN or LPN.
• Assist with exercising and ambulating patients; use correct body mechanics while assisting with patient mobility; maintain physical safety and comfort of patient under supervision of an RN or LPN.
• Obtain patient vital signs, input and output checks, and accu‑checks; report abnormalities to the nurse.
• Perform procedures as directed by an RN or LPN, such as EKGs, perineal care, emptying of Foley bags, application of restraints, backrubs, etc.
• Collect specimens such as urine, feces, sputum, and deliver as necessary.
• Document basic patient care into an electronic medical record.
• Assist nursing and clerical staff with admitting, discharging, transferring, ambulating, transporting, and observing patients to ensure safety as directed.
• Answer unit phones and direct calls to the appropriate parties.
• May perform duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited CNA course and successful completion of the CNA certification exam, or completion of an EMT or paramedic training course, or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation.
• Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
