Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for Medicine Unit 4 - Progressive Ventilator Support Unit (PVSU). This full-time, night shift role offers 12-hour shifts from 7:00pm to 7:00am with rotating weekends in Norfolk, VA.

The PCT will provide direct patient care, monitor vitals, assist with activities of daily living, venipuncture, specimen collection, EKGs, and Foley catheter care under RN supervision in a ventilator-dependent unit.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
• One of the following certifications is required: CNA, NCMA, NCPCT, Navy Hospital Corps School, EMR/EMS/EMT/AEMT or RN/LPN/RT/PT clinical program enrollment.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and support activities of daily living.
• Monitor vital signs and report changes to RN.
• Assist with mobility, ambulation, phlebotomy, and specimen collection.
• Perform point-of-care testing, EKG, and peripheral IV removal.
• Assist with Foley catheter insertion and removal while following safety protocols.

This is a Full Time, Night Shift (12-hour shift) position.**Hours:** 7:00pm to 7:00am - Three 12-hour shifts (36 hours per week), with rotating weekends.**Department Overview:** **Medicine Unit 4 - Progressive Ventilator Support Unit (PVSU)** is an eight-bed step-down unit, specializing in treatment of patients on mechanical ventilators. Most patients admitted to PVSU come from an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). PVSU focuses on maximizing the rehabilitation while continuing to treat the cause of the illness. This goal is accomplished through intensive physical therapy, respiratory care and mental stimulation.The **Patient Care Technician** provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse.
