Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health seeks a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Cardiac Post CTICU at Jersey City Medical Center. The role supports RNs with vital signs, EKGs, mobility and personal care, fostering a safe, compassionate environment.

The ideal candidate holds a High School Diploma or GED, current BLS, and CNA or nursing program experience; a part-time night schedule 11:00 PM–7:00 AM with every other weekend is offered.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or GED and BLS certification.
• Previous nursing assistant experience or clinical nursing program preferred.
• Part-time night schedule 11:00PM–7:00AM with every other weekend.
• CNA certificate or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living and provide nursing care including vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy, and bedside care.
• Monitor vital signs (BP, pulse, respiration, temperature) and track patient health status.
• Document patient information accurately in EHR systems and maintain confidentiality.
• Implement infection control protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers to coordinate care plans.
• Support emergency response with Basic Life Support (BLS) skills when needed.
• Provide patient care appropriate to the patient’s age based on criteria, safety, and education.
• Contribute to achieving safe patient outcomes through sound judgment and teamwork.
• Maintain ongoing communication with patients and nursing colleagues regarding care status.
• Participate in care plan development from admission to discharge.

As a Patient Care Technician (PCT), you will be a vital part of our collaborative nursing team, supporting Registered Nurses in providing hands-on care and helping create a safe, welcoming environment for patients. You'll assist with daily needs such as vital signs, mobility, and personal care, while helping RNs monitor conditions and carry out care plans. Your attention, empathy, and teamwork help restore comfort and dignity for every patient you serve and make our mission to improve lives a reality each day.

As a Patient Care Technician (PCT), a typical day may include:

• Assisting patients with activities of daily living and providing nursing care to patients including taking vital signs, EKGS, performing phlebotomy, assisting with bedside care, i.e. bathing, mouth care, skin care.
• Monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature to track patient health status
• Document patient information accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems while maintaining strict confidentiality
• Implement infection control protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff, adhering to facility policies
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers to coordinate care plans and address concerns
• Support emergency response efforts by applying Basic Life Support (BLS) skills such as CPR when needed in acute situations
• Providing patient care, based on physical, education, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients
• Providing for effective and safe patient outcomes through practice, judgment and critical actions
• Ongoing communication with patients and nursing colleagues regarding status of patient's care
• Participating in collaboration of our patient's plan of care from admission to discharge to ensure safe transitioning

To be considered for this PCT opportunity, you must have a High School Diploma / GED and a current American Heart Association BLS certification. Previous nursing assistant experience or clinical experience from an accredited nursing program is preferred or a CNA certificate. This position offers a Part-Time Night schedule 11:00PM-7:00AM and includes every other weekend as well as some holidays.
